Battle of Jonesborough
Located where Clayton County is today, on the days of the 31st of August too the
1st of September 1864, Major General William T. Sherman led his army to face the
Confederacy headed by Lieutant General William J. Hardee. Of the three thousand
one hundred and forty-nine casualities, around two thousand were Confederacy. It
is said this Union victory helped President Lincoln get re-elected later on.
Although, had the Union not won, General Sherman would've had to make a change
in plans having that area of the battle being so close to Atlanta, where he would
later have his March to the Sea.
